About Ben Mitchell

The Story Behind the Songs

Ben Mitchell is an American BMI songwriter who loves music, dogs, woodcarving, and fishing. Born in a big city, he eventually traded the urban life for the countryside — marrying his country dance partner, Denise — and together they lead a quiet, peaceful, and happy life in a small town in heartland USA.

Music first became part of his life in high school, where he played in a band before becoming disillusioned with the business side of the industry. While attending college, he began writing songs simply because he loved telling stories through music.

Years later, that passion led him to found Trade Winds Records — a name inspired by his love of sailing. There he wrote, produced, performed, and sang on two country albums: Peace of Mind and Let it Ride.

Following open-heart surgery, complications with his singing caused him to step away from music for nearly two decades. Then something unexpected happened. His wife wrote a song and asked for his help. That one song rekindled a lifelong passion and lit the songwriting fire again.

Today, Ben combines traditional songwriting with modern technology — writing every lyric, structuring the arrangement, choosing the instrumentation, and directing the vocal performances. Using AI to develop the music, he now takes on the role of producer to create finished songs. His goal has never been simply to make records. It has always been to create songs that encourage, comfort, and inspire.

With several singles now available on streaming services, Ben measures success a little differently. The greatest reward isn't found in royalty statements — it's found in hearing that one of his songs brought joy, hope, or encouragement to someone who needed it. Or even just brightened up someone's day.

"May God make you strong, give your spirit a song, that will keep you and guide you through life."
